According to Dr. Greger, the intake of legumes may be the single most important dietary predictor of a long lifespan, but what about the gas? Many people don’t like beans, some from the taste, others the gas. Beans can taste all different ways depending on how you make them. All cultures use them in their dishes. Find a recipe you like and make your beans. Gas mostly comes from the skins. Wash your beans thoroughly before use. This will minimize the gas effect. 1/2 cup of beans added to people’s diet had not added symptoms.
Beans may be the real fountain of youth. The gas negativity seems to be a myth that has gone viral! Don’t let it cause you to stay away from the fountain of youth. Try making beans in many different diets to see what you like. Substituting beans for meat several times a week could help your family live longer and be healthier.
Beans give a lot of protein (plant-based protein instead of animal protein) but remember we Americans eat way too much protein and it’s mostly animal protein. Animal protein can cause serious chronic illness.

Vegetables, as Socrates said, are our medicine. Nature gave us vegetables & fruits to energize our bodies, protect them from invading diseases and provide the necessary nutrients for life. Without them we are running on dirty and inefficient fuel. It is only a matter of time until our bodies break down. Then we live with disease or die.
Can anyone justify not eating plants? So much is at stake. Simply doing what grandma knew can improve your life substantially. Why risk so much?
The study goes on to say eat plenty of vegetables & fruits. What does plenty mean? More than most Americans eat. This is the single reason so many Americans are sick and die prematurely. It is NOT old age. It is bad fuel!
Healthy Berries are Good Food for Health (Photo credit: epSos.de)
“Food Mythbusters” is trying to take advertisements for unhealthy foods off our TVs and out of our schools. Our kids are being systematically targeted by these corporations to increase their profits. The result is 1/3 of our children are getting diabetes, cancer and other food related illnesses. They are being drugged with sugar and fat to increase their addiction to these foods and increase the profits of these corporations. They are spending mega bucks on TV ads and school programs to get close to our kids. They are also targeting our government through lobbing to reduce laws against what they are doing. The link above has an important video YOU MUST SEE IF YOU HAVE CHILDREN OR ARE ADDICTED TO FAST FOOD! The life you save today may be your children’s and yourself.

Dr Greger says we should be banning sweets that make our kids obese. Parents across the country were so outraged they had laws made to allow sweets in schools. Are we really so blind that we are passing laws to enable our kids to get fat and sick? Think about it. Kids do what they see their parents doing. Kids actually ate more fruits and vegetables with a few tricks mentioned on this video. If you have kids or are a teacher, WATCH THIS VIDEO!
We love our burgers in America. Not eating meat doesn’t mean you have to give up this joy. Veggie burgers have come a long way! There are so many types of veggie burgers to try. Just like real burgers you have to find one you like. We like Trader Joe’s Vegan Grillers. The taste is great and the texture is close to a real burger. Burger are never about the meat. They are about the garnish. Load up your veggie burger just like a meat burger with lettuce, onions, tomatoes, pickles, etc. Enjoy them on the grill as well. Many hamburger places are now offering veggie burgers as a substitute to meat. So you can eat out with your friends. Other bars and restaurants are doing portabella burgers. No meat just a nice thick portabella mushroom. So enjoy that American tradition even if you are vegetarian or vegan. Even Burger King has a veggie burger option!
this is what i imagine an epileptic seizure to look like... (Photo credit: candyls)
A recent scientific paper discusses the cause of seizures in humans. We now know that the neurons in our brain do increase. Seizures are a sudden electrical discharge of electricity from what appeared to be a normal neural network. This makes finding the area causing a seizure difficult unless you are looking as a seizure occurs. What causes this sudden discharge? It may be caused by genetic changes, trauma in birth, or now from environmental changes (epigenetics). Little is known about which environmental changes cause a seizure. This paper suggests that seizures may interfere with normal hippocampus functionality and causes cognitive impairments.
Edmonton Canada bans junk food in schools An article in CBC News Canada reports on this ban. I applaud their decision and understand how hard this is when companies like the big soda companies put tremendous pressure on school boards to sell soda. This ban doesn’t include what is brought from home. So you can still send anything you want to school with your child. I would love to see this start here in the US. Maybe we can curb the childhood diseases that are on an increase and obesity in children. They can’t fight for themselves so we have to do it for them.
The Politics of the Meat & Dairy Industry – This video is another from the Vegetarian Society of Hawaii. Again bear with opening remarks on this society and membership. Michele Simon J.D., a young lawyer, wrote a book on the abuses of the food industry. She speaks on public health crises. She graduated from Yale school of public health and says she learned nothing about the realities of good health. She read a book by Dean Ornish (subject of many of my BLOGs) to lose weight and was stunned at how well plant-based diets preformed. She states:
· Food companies are claiming to be trying to solve obesity problem but at the same time they lobby against healthy drinks and food that eat into their profits
· Federal government is asleep at the wheel. Policy making has shifted completely to local & state levels
· Food industry is under pressure from media, policy makers and scientists who are all asking very difficult questions about how their foods are adversely affecting all our health
· Other pressures are shareholders & competition
· They respond to these pressures by
i. Denying the findings
ii. Not their fault; it’s Americans fault
iii. American’s need more exercise; divert the topic elsewhere
iv. Promote exercise in our schools but they sell their products and hook another generation
v. Promote their products as nutritious; when they have more calories & fat than older products
vi. Bate & switch – say you are healthy e.g. whole grains but your product isn’t natural whole grains and is sugar-coated
vii. Lobbying – Claim to change your ways but lobby to prevent any real change that will affect your products
