Kids Health says epigenetics from our parents and our grandparents can influence your child’s health. Epigenetics is passed along in the egg and sperm along with genetics. It carries the working software for the next generation. This enables us to learn from past generations. Epigenetics can also be changed in real-time by altering our environment. This allows us to adapt in real-time to changing conditions. The problem with modern life is it can trigger environmental changes that affect our health and well-being.

The US National Library of Medicine says epigenetics is a new bridge between nutrition and health. The nutrients we digest can actually change the epigenetic influences on our genes. Genes that are switched off can get switched back on and genes that were on can be switched back off. The relevance of this can only be determined by what the gene does. If the gene creates cancer or disease it is best switched off. If it promotes health and happiness it is better switch on.
