How much Longer can you live by eating more Plants!

Dr Greger has a very interesting video (below) that asks the question, “How many minutes (longer do we live) per mouthful of plants”. By plants we include both fruits and vegetables. No one argues the fact that plants are good for us but how good are they? A recent study compared those people eating 5 servings of plant based foods per day to those eating 4, 3, 2, 1 and no plant based food per day showed:

If You Eat Fish, don’t buy Farmed!

There are so many toxins in farmed fish, it should be avoided. Dr Greger says being obese brings back these pollutants from our own fat. So we need to be aware where we buy our foods and keep our bodies lean. Our fat stores bad chemicals that can make us sick for a long long time. These toxins are stored in our fat cells. As the fat cell is used, it releases the toxins back into our body. Everything seems to be polluted today and we can’t avoid it 100% but we should be aware so when there is a choice, we choose the best option. Vegans have the best results here since they do not eat any fish or animal protein.

My brother, Ray, told me about this article by Katie Couric on junk food. Watch the video at this site. We are being hijacked into buying junk food. This article says:

We can’t watch TV, listen to the radio, walk down the street or drive without marketing hijacking our brains. The two biggest hijackers are drugs and food. Yes we need to eat food but most is junk food and processed foods that have more chemicals in them than nutrients. This hijacking has caused the biggest epidemic of illness in our nations history. We are loosing and will continue to lose more Americans to drug reactions and improper diet than all the wars combined. Why? Greed! Drugs and the food industry are big business.

 

Food For Thought

My book, Food for Thought, takes you through an introduction to epigenetics and genetics. How we evolved these systems and how our environment affects epigenetics. By environment, I mean the food we eat, what we breathe, how we think and what we believe in. Most of us know if we smoke we have a high probability of getting lung cancer. Most of us also know if we are exposed to radiation we can also develop cancer. But few people realize how important the food we eat is. We think more about the fuel we put in our cars than what we put into our bodies.  Food breaks down into energy, sugars (which set off many different epigenetic reactions), nutrients needed by the cell and minerals needed. If we are not getting the proper amounts of these, our cells can not function properly.

How we think and what we believe also affects who we are. We have all heard stories of a person on deaths bed, the doctors can do nothing to help. Then they suddenly are cured completely. Our minds are very powerful instruments. If you think positive and feel you are healthy, happy and well, you will be. If you, on the other hand, feel you will get a disease and die. You most likely will. What do you eat? how do you think and What do you believe? These may be the three most important questions you can ask yourself.

Nature or Man Made?

I find it ironic that so many studies are showing the positive effects of natural foods (natures pills). They prevent almost every disease that we get and they can cure disease we already have. The solution is so easy and so inexpensive. No marketing on TV just eat more plant-based foods and less animal-based foods. Diseases have reached a critical point in our country. The cost of insurance is rising. How much more can it rise before the system fails? The alternative is the American Cure all System, DRUGS! If you watch enough TV you will believe there is a pill for everything. The side effects can be horrible and even life threatening. So why do we choose a man-made pill over natures natural solution? It’s marketing 101. People believe what they hear on TV and radio. We believe getting old is the problem, when it’s not. We believe everyone gets sick, but they don’t. We believe the only solution is drugs, It’s not! You have a choice, choose wisely. The truth is vegans do live longer, happier and healthier. They almost never get a chronic illness.

Cholesterol and Breast Cancer

One in every eight woman will be diagnosed with breast cancer. That is sad but the really sad thing is it can be prevented with a dietary change. Dr Greger says that broccoli, sunflower seeds, pumpkin seeds and other plant-based foods can reduce the risk. He says new studies show a link between cholesterol and breast cancer. The cholesterol fat feeds the cancer and allows it to grow. the study shows a 17% increase in cancer risk for women with cholesterol over 240 as opposed to those under 160. This may be why cholesterol drops in cancer patients. The cancer is eating it up.

Eggs are a major source of cholesterol and fat. All animal protein foods contain this as well (cheese, milk, meat and butter). We have reported on studies that show meat can turn ON/OFF cancer (The China Study and others see my book). Once cancer is turned ON, cholesterol and fat feed it. This allows it to grow rapidly out of control. Feed your body correctly and you will enjoy good health!

 

A High-Fat Diet may increase Risk of Breast Cancer

The Physicians Committee for Responsible Medicine (PCRM) says that a diet high in fat can increase risk of Breast Cancer. Women concerned about breast cancer need to look at this article. Reduce your fat to good fats and stop intake of all saturated fats. This was study of 337,327 women by the National Cancer Institute.  Cancer is a concern among all of us. Women in particular are concerned about breast cancer. The more we research cancers of all types, we see that they are highly related to our diet. Americans have the worst diet in the world and we have some of the highest cancer rates as well. You can change your diet to a healthier one. Once you do, you will find you enjoy healthier foods more than you ever thought. We have only one body, take care of it and fuel it correctly!

 

Why do we have Junk Food?

Junk food is one of the most profitable businesses around! Dr Greger, in his video below, says Coca Cola is as profitable as tobacco. Unhealthy food is profitable. First you pay when you buy this food so a company can turn over insane profit margins and then you pay again as you get sick for your health care. We are all paying too much for healthy care because many of our Americans are eating way too much junk food. These companies know how to use sugar and other chemicals to addict you to their products. I believe in the American system of making money but when companies make excessive profits at the cost of American health, it is not OK! Our government looks the other way because of lobbies. Only you can change this situation. Just stop buying unhealthy foods! Watch your family get healthier and watch your savings go up.

As if this is not enough, we are subsidizing these industries with our tax dollars. Our government subsidizes companies in the production of animal products and sugar production. Both of these have changed our diets since World War II. Both sugar and animal protein are linked to many diseases including cancer and heart disease. Why do we do it? Getting sick fuels the other hugh money making industry, the drug industry.

 

How to get Lowest Risk of Heart Disease

The PCRM (Physicians Committee for Responsible Medicine) quoted a study published in “Public Health Nutrition” that says Vegetarian and Vegan eaters have the lowest risk of heart disease! The study stated:

Those who consumed a vegetarian/vegan diet had fewer heart disease risk factors including lower blood pressure, half the risk of diabetes, and a 44 percent reduced risk for hypertension, compared with those who consumed pesco-vegetarian and non-vegetarian diets. Additionally, vegetarians and vegans were 43 percent less likely to be obese, compared with non-vegetarians.

If you are on the border about meat and animal protein (eggs, milk, meat and cheese), seriously limit it’s intake or stop all together. If you can’t stop eating meat at least limit the portions to a small piece once or twice a week and increase your vegetable intake drastically. A good indicator of how much animal protein is safe is 10% of all your food intake (from “The China Study”). Count all the calories you consume in a day. Then count the calories from meat, eggs, milk, cheese and yogurt. Divide the animal protein calories by the total calories. If your number is higher than 10%, you may be at risk of diseases including heart disease and cancer.

Unfortunately the Standard American Diet (SAD) is very sad. Americans that eat eggs, bacon butter and milk for breakfast; meat and cheese for lunch and meat and potatoes for dinner have an animal protein percentage over 60% (some in the 90’s). Our bodies were not built for this type of consumption. The proof is all around you, JUST LOOK! WE have many more hospitals, medical centers and chronic illnesses are way up. It’s not just old people but our children are falling victims to these diseases at am alarming rate.
