An artist will tell you how important colors are. Blending them together will yield beautiful and sometimes unusual colors. Our bodies need nutrients that are blended together to provide coverage for different situations. A healthy body is one that receives a variety of nutrients that allow the body to do its work and remain healthy. These different nutrients come from plant life of different colors. You should be eating a wide variety of colors in your plant food, Here is a list of colors and what they help do for our bodies. There are some foods in each category but this is not an exhaustive list. Explore and try different foods in each color group.

Juicing Vegetables on Facebook says:

  1. White – Strengthens our immune system – garlic & cauliflower
  2. Green – detoxified – broccoli, spinach, beans  & green apples
  3. Red – Improves heart and blood system – tomatoes, strawberries, & raspberries
  4. Yellow – Fortifies the skins elasticity – bananas & lemons
  5. Orange – Prevents cancers – pumpkin & oranges
  6. Purple – Increases longevity – eggplant

Imagine if you ate from this group of plant foods each day. You would have a strong immune system that could resist colds and other diseases, detox your body so it would be healthier, improve your blood flow that provides oxygen to every cell, have younger looking more elastic skin, prevent cancer and increase your life. Eat well, live long and enjoy a healthy life …

Can we Live without Plant?

Food Matters

Plants are more nutrient-dense than animal based foods. We need these nutrients to live and be healthy. Most Americans eat a lot but what they eat is NOT nutrient-dense. Their bodies take in volumes of food but they are starving for nutrients needed to maintain healthy life. The excess food with a lack of exercise is stored as fat. Do your bodies and yourself a favor and eat foods loaded with nutrients.

Food Matters says there are four important reasons to eat plant-based foods:

  1. They provide us with energy to do our daily work
  2. They conserve energy as they take less energy to digest than animal based foods. Therefore the body has more left over energy for its tasks
  3. They help us satisfy ourselves without eating processed (less nutritious foods)
  4. They help us sleep better

Does Organic Taste Weird?

I had a friend that said to me, “I don’t like the taste of organic!” That is really weird. Organic has no added taste. It is just the absence of preservatives. I told my friend to just go into the garage and get some fertilizer and sprinkle it on his organics and he would have regular produce. A little harsh, I admit but it does get the point across. God and nature made plant life a certain way to help keep us healthy and nourished. Man started fertilizing to increase profits at the cost of health. Look at our country now. After a few generations we are mostly sick.

There is another side to nutrients besides organics. It is rotating crops properly so the soil revives and keeps its nutrient base. When done properly, our plant food is very nutritious. Again it it a costly practice that has been mostly abandoned in the US for higher profits. Europe, especially Italy, still has farmers that care about taste and nutrients and farm to older standards. It works there because people want better tasting foods and healthier foods.

Green Juice in the Morning

Yesterday I spoke of juicing. There is another BLOGger that talks about their favorite green juice recipe. Juicing will help you lose weight, feel more alert and alive. It is healthy because of all the different nutrients you are consuming. Do it fresh just before you drink it to preserve the most nutrients. Buy your fruit and vegetables organic. A good juicer produces no mess in the kitchen and is easy to clean up. If you have your own organic garden, dump the left over pulp in the garden.

We started juicing yesterday. We bought a Breville and made our first juice from apples, celery, carrots and ginger. It was delicious. You get about 70% of the vitamins, minerals and nutrients from the food by juicing. So why not just eat the food whole? Mainly you can’t eat 2 apples, 2 stalks of celery and carrots and a chunk of ginger at one sitting. So you consume more but get 70%. Overall it is more nutrients than you normally would get. Juicing should use organic fruits and vegetables. Look at recipes and find those that use both fruits and vegetables. Juicing will help you lose weight, feel more alive and energetic and provide your body with the nutrients it needs to stay healthy.

How do you get your Veggies?

Fruits and vegetablesVegetables provide essential nutrients and fiber for life. Vegetarians and Vegans get plenty from their foods. Meat eaters rely on the vegetables the animal, you are eating, ate in its life. Eating carnivore animals gives fewer nutrients than eating herbivores. You do get some essential nutrients through meat but not enough. You really need to be eating plenty of vegetables. The second problem is our meat sources don’t feed animal’s natural vegetables but have mixes of grains and chemicals. The overall affect is Americans are getting fewer and fewer plant-based nutrients essential for good health and life. The result is we are getting sicker and sicker as a nation. We have the power to change this, just start eating more organic vegetables and watch how much better you feel.

Capsules, Pills and Powders Everywhere

I am reading a lot about the “Epigenetic Diet”. It seems we are using these new areas of biology to determine what nutrients are essential for human health. This is a very good thing. Then we try to synthesize the nutrient into a capsule, pill or powder to be taken orally. This is bad! Why not just eat the food that contains the original nutrient? It is usually a plant-based food. Why pay for pills when we can eat what God gave us naturally? Are we really that stupid?

Are you an Abusive Parent?

Dr. Joel Fuhrman

Dr Joel Fuhrman suggests that parents that feed their children foods low in nutrients are enabling “slow destruction of their child’s genetic potential.” In light of what we know about epigenetics, poor, nutrient empty foods are switching the wrong genes On and Off. This may be the most abusive thing loving parents can do. They are making their children sicker at earlier ages. You wouldn’t allow your child to do drugs, smoke a cigarette, drive a car, drink alcohol or have sex at an early age but allowing them the wrong foods can be even more deadly! If you are concerned about your children or grandchildren’s well being, start with what goes into their mouths.

A Scientific Formula for Health

Reading Joel Fuhrman’s book, Eat to Live, I see yet another dedicated person that is not only trying to help people but actually succeeding. Like Dean Ornish, he has helped thousands of people lose weight and become healthier. He also advocates a diet primarily based on fruits and vegetables in a raw state. Dr Fuhrman puts forward a health formula: H=N/C.
H stands for health, N for nutrients and C for calories. The higher the ratio of nutrients to calories, the healthier we are. Conversely the lower the number, the sicker we can be. Are you eating nutrient rich foods or empty calories that are addicting but will cause you illness and suffering.
