What we feed our kids will make them what they are as adults. We can make them healthy or sick, thin or fat, smart or not so. Food is a powerful fuel. It affects every cell in our body and their are more than 10 trillion of them. Our addictions for fast food, sweets, salt, etc. usually start in childhood. Wouldn’t it be great for them to have an addiction for fruits and vegetables?

Dr Greger says Tarragon was in question then it was justified then it was back to maybe a risk to human health. If you use it a little, don’t worry but if you use it a lot, you might want to substitute another herb. Herbs have many nutritional benefits but some may be toxic and should be avoided.

Up Selling Can be Unhealthy

I was at a Salad Works last night. I ordered a vegetarian chili small and a greek salad with half the normal dressing. The first up sell was to try and get me to up size the soup to a larger one for only 50 cents more. I told him it was not the money but the portion size. He looked at me as if I was from mars. Next he couldn’t understand why I only wanted half the dressing. First he tried to tell me it tasted better with all of the dressing, then he wanted to give me the other half in a cup just in case. I really object to being up sold and I object to the increasing portion sizes in restaurants. They don’t get it! One day lawyers will go after these companies because their up selling and portion sizes make people overweight and unhealthy. Don’t be fooled! order what you feel is right for you to eat. Don’t eat any more!

America is getting fatter each year. It’s happening to younger and younger people. It is a very sad situation because this leads to more illness, chronic disease and unhappiness in life.  It can be avoided if we ate correctly! The four evils in America are Fat, Sugar, Wheat and Salt. We do need some fat for our brains to operate properly. Eat good fat like Olive Oil and avocados and fish. Avoid completely fried foods which use bad fats and are loaded with calories. Avoid sweets. This seems hard to do for someone who is addicted. After 3 or 4 days the sugar addiction goes away and you wont have as strong a craving. If you give in and some sweets, the cravings will continue on and on. Wheat turns to sugar in the body and can spike your blood sugar levels. Fruits are OK since the sugars are contained in fiber which release them slowly in our bodies. They do nor spike the blood sugar levels. Avoid cereals completely except oatmeal! Cereal has added sugar, salt and wheat. They will spike your blood sugar levels. Finally salt. Salt comes in supper high levels in processed foods. Don’t eat them! Soups can have as much as a half a day’s salt levels in one portion! Make your own from scratch and control how much salt you add. It is not the salt shaker that hurts (unless you use it excessively) but the processed foods that come with hidden salt that we can’t even taste. Remember you are in control of your health, not your doctor and certainly not your government. Decide today to take control back.

Dr. Greger’s new video talks about the relationship between breast cancer and dietary fiber intake. This may be why vegans have a much less chance of breast cancer. It may not be the fiber directly but what else is in plant-based foods like vitamins and antioxidants. If you are worried about breast cancer or your daughter’s chance of getting it, watch this video and change your life-style. Vegans have much less chance almost none and vegetarians more but much less chance than meat eater.

Food Matters on Facebook had an article by a Dr. Mercola on lowering high blood pressure without drugs. He mentions many dietary, exercise related and stress related life changing things you can do to naturally lower your blood pressure. Sound familiar? I talk about diet, stress, exercise , thinking and belief as epigenetic life changing factors in this BLOG. Our bodies evolved to respond to conditions around us. For the last million years or more changes were relatively slow. In modern times we have changed the environment we live in drastically. We exercise less, we are in constant stress, we eat processed foods, we eat the wrong things from a nutrient point of view, we tend more toward negative thoughts than positive ones, and we don’t believe in much lowering the placebo effect and increasing the nocebo effect. This is causing drastic epigenetic changes in our bodies that can lead to increased illness and early death.

Dr Mercola states one source of high blood pressure is a diet rich in grains and fructose. Americans eat way too many grains. Cereals (except oatmeal), sweets, breads, etc are all sugars or turn to sugar in our bodies. Diabetes can be caused by too much sugars in our diet. Diabetes and high blood pressure are linked. The great news is we all have a choice in life. No one is forced to eat wrong or not exercise or live a high stressed life! It’s your choice.We should be changing our life styles and teaching our kids what is really important in life. You can change your lifestyle and live a healthier and happier life. Just do it … NO EXCUSES!

Humans are at top of the food chain. It has given us an advantage over all other animals. Does eating other things high up on the food chain matter? Is it good or bad for our health. Man has evolved with plant life for millions of years. Plants provided nutrients, a good diet and antioxidants to fight of diseases. Our modern medicine came from herbal mixtures (plants) that benefited our health. Today the drug companies synthesis the beneficial parts of certain plants into pills. Meat that we eat comes from other animals up on the food chain (similar DNA). We know animal protein carries substances that cause inflammation in the human body. This can lead to heart disease and cancer. Plants are low on the chain (very different DNA). Eating plant protein is very beneficial to our health.

Man was mostly a vegetarian getting some meat when he already found it dead. We were more likely to be eaten by other animals than to eat them. We were nomadic (exercise) and ate berries, root vegetables and fruits we found along the way. Our bodies defenses and health evolved from this kind of food. Modern man eats very little plant based protein and an enormous amount of animal protein along with saturated fats, sugar and salt. He gets little or no exercise. Is it any wonder we have record-breaking numbers of sick and dying? Change back to our more natural way of living and gain your health back.

Our normal diet is very SAD! We Americans eat too much salt, sugar and greasy fried foods. I was eating in a great Italian restaurant in Boca Raton, FL last night. The owner, chef was from Naples, Italy and had been chef at Grand Hotel in Rome, Italy. We got talking about Italy and how his food was very close to what you got in Italy at the non tourist restaurants. He said most people come into his restaurant and add salt to his food even before they taste it. It is a crutch! Salt & sugar can lead to serious illnesses and death. We buy prepared foods which are loaded with salt and sugars. We then salt them before eating them. Typically we have more than a daily allowance of salt in a single meal.

 

Try breaking away from prepared foods, canned foods and frozen foods as much as possible. Buy fresh produce and cook it your self. Add a little bit of salt for flavor. If you break the salt & sugar addition, you will enjoy the real taste of fresh food more and be healthier. Many people believe soup is so healthy and eat a lot of it. Canned or boxed soups are very high in salt. BEWARE! Make your own soup from scratch with little or no salt. Add a small amount as you serve it for flavor. The life you save might be your own or a loved one.

That is the question! Do we diet properly and eat healthy foods or do we allow disease into our lives and premature death? Humans are funny. Even when they know something can kill them, they continue to do it. Smoking is a good example. There is no doubt that smoking is dangerous to our health, yet so many people continue to do it. Is it because they feel it’s cool? It is NOT cool to get sick and die before your time. Diet affects all of us. A good healthy diet can prolong life and make it more enjoyable. A poor diet can make you sick, sad and miserable in life. We all have a choice. Make yours wisely!

An article on Yahoo today shows a leading story that mummies had clogged arteries. Most people read this and say to themselves,”See even ancient Egyptians had clogged arteries. I can’t worry about it!” They lead a good and decadent life. They ate a lot of meat. They suffered from the same diseases we do. We shouldn’t read these types of articles and let ourselves off the hook. We make ourselves sick by our life-style. Change your life-style and live healthier. It’s a very simple rule. Eat more of what God and nature gives us and less of what man makes. Eat less animal protein and more vegetable protein. Relax and do meditation. Exercise and stay fit. It really is that simple. Each of these are things you choose to do. Choose correctly and your body will stay healthy.
