Our Thoughts are so Important!

I have been talking a lot about how we are creatures that react to our environment. Epigenetics is a programming language that allows our DNA to adjust to our environment. If we are to survive as a species here on Earth, we must adapt quickly to environmental changes. Epigenetics is the process that allows this to happen.

Epigenetics reacts to several general stimuli, diet, stress, thoughts and belief. Thoughts are critical to our health. If we believe and are positive in our health, we will be healthy (placebo). If we believe and are negative that we will be ill, we will be (nocebo). Which are you?

Re-read an old BLOG of mine on Bruce Lipton, pioneer in epigenetics of thought and belief. For more information on Epigenetics search my BLOG or read my book.

How I got Started in Epigenetics

DNA and how it affects us has been a long time passion for me. In college I studied Physics. I remember the scientists of that time said “once we understand the DNA codes, we will know everything about life!” Of course this was false. The more we learned the more questions we had. At first epigenetics was ignored but later it became apparent that epigenetics was so much more important than genetics. It was a system that turns ON and OFF your genetics. This is very much like a computer comparing hardware to software. Software is so much more important than hardware but it couldn’t work without the hardware. Software turns on hardware instructions in a certain order thus creating the a program

Years later I studied everything I could find on epigenetics and wrote my book, “Food for Thought“. It was an attempt to document all the available knowledge on epigenetics that affects our health. It was written for the general population although many doctors and scientists read my BLOG and ask me questions. It was clear that epigenetics was affected by diet, stress, thought and belief. We are social animals that interact with our environment. This interaction can cause both positive and negative health effects.

The most import thing to remember is “YOU ARE IN CONTROL OF YOUR HEALTH!” Thinks about that! Now read my research in the back of the book and watch the videos on my video tab. Try to lead a life:

  1. Free of stress (as much as possible)
  2. Watch your diet (eat more vegetables & fruits)
  3. Be positive (put out of your mind all negative thoughts)
  4. Believe in yourself

You will find your weight down, your health improved and your sex life better.

More on Brain’s Need to Overeat!

Yesterday we spoke about how our brains get accustomed to overeating and want more. Today we visit a BLOG that talks about a key shift in the brain that causes overeating. It states:

A team of American and Italian neuroscientists has identified a cellular change in the brain that accompanies obesity. The findings could explain the body’s tendency to maintain undesirable weight levels, rather than an ideal weight, and identify possible targets for pharmacological efforts to address obesity.

I wish they would look for natural ways to overcome this and not just pharmacological means. We train our brains by how we think, what we eat, stress and what we believe. The brain then tries to give us what we want. This unfortunately is not always what is best for us.

What does your Gut know about Bacteria?

We all have good bacteria in our gut. It helps digest what we eat and keep us healthy. In fact we can not live without these microbes. Eating the wrong foods can kill off this good bacteria with a strain of bad bacteria. This link takes you to a great BLOG on this subject. Don’t miss the cartoon at the end of the BLOG! It states to medical students that, “Preventative medicine kills return business.” Eating animal based proteins (meat, cheese, eggs and milk) will increase the bad bacteria and thus lessen the good ones.

We are very complex creatures. Our systems have a delicate balance that when upset can cause diseases. This system was developed over millions of years as we evolved. What we mostly ate during that time was plant-based foods. These foods were evolving as well. They provided us with the missing nutrients we needed to exist. In our modern society, many people exist without many lang-based foods at all. This is why we are so sick as a society. If it continues no government program will work. It will simply break and millions of people will suffer with their diseases. Our current system works because fewer people are sick than healthy but that is changing rapidly.

Holiday, Eating healthy and Well

Long gone are the days were we sit at the table for 6 hours and gorge ourselves. Or at least it’s long gone for most. This holiday season try to make more vegetables. If you’re a meat-eater, serve smaller portions and find interesting vegetable dishes to try with your meat. Avoid frying everything. For dessert make less! Try baking something yourself. Use half the sugar called for or use a substitute like natural organic apple sauce with no sugar added. An even better dessert is fruit, fresh, juicy and delicious.

Holidays are about spending time with family and friends, not about over eating or eating the wrong things. Stay healthy and help keep your family healthy.

What is in a Chicken Nugget?

Dr Greger does an autopsy of chicken nuggets in the video below. Chicken is an item missing or almost missing from chicken nuggets! It’s mostly skeleton, skin and fat (no meat). We seem to have laws that allow names to represent an item in a misleading way. Do you really want to feed your kids skin, skeleton and fat? No wonder America’s waist line is in a constant growth!

Oprah ask’s the difficult question about plant based diets preventing and curing cancer. The facts are out there! Review my video tab and research these scientists and doctors works. Plants provide the nutrients we need to sustain life. Some can be gotten from meats but on;y because the animal ate plants and got the nutrients. The real question is “How much do you really want to be healthy?”

If you haven’t read “The China Study” by T. Colin Campbell, please do so. This book was an eye opener for me. Dr. Campbell showed that he could turn cancer ON when animal protein consumption was more than 10% of your diet and turn it back off when it was less. A vegan diet can prevent cancers as well as other chronic illnesses. If you already have an illness, it can improve the situation and might even cure the disease. Dr Campbell has a great website that has many doctors talking about the benefits of a plant-based diet. Read what they have to say. It is your choice! The China Study and Dr. Campbell’s research is one of the topics covered in my book.
