Food Matters on Facebook had an article by a Dr. Mercola on lowering high blood pressure without drugs. He mentions many dietary, exercise related and stress related life changing things you can do to naturally lower your blood pressure. Sound familiar? I talk about diet, stress, exercise , thinking and belief as epigenetic life changing factors in this BLOG. Our bodies evolved to respond to conditions around us. For the last million years or more changes were relatively slow. In modern times we have changed the environment we live in drastically. We exercise less, we are in constant stress, we eat processed foods, we eat the wrong things from a nutrient point of view, we tend more toward negative thoughts than positive ones, and we don’t believe in much lowering the placebo effect and increasing the nocebo effect. This is causing drastic epigenetic changes in our bodies that can lead to increased illness and early death.

Dr Mercola states one source of high blood pressure is a diet rich in grains and fructose. Americans eat way too many grains. Cereals (except oatmeal), sweets, breads, etc are all sugars or turn to sugar in our bodies. Diabetes can be caused by too much sugars in our diet. Diabetes and high blood pressure are linked. The great news is we all have a choice in life. No one is forced to eat wrong or not exercise or live a high stressed life! It’s your choice.We should be changing our life styles and teaching our kids what is really important in life. You can change your lifestyle and live a healthier and happier life. Just do it … NO EXCUSES!

Web MD says a vegetarian diet may cut the risk of heart disease. A new study shows the hospitalization due to heart disease is down by a third for those following a vegetarian diet over meat and fish eaters. Heart disease is the largest killer of humans in developed countries. You don’t have to give in to this disease, you can fight it! A major weapon in fighting it is DIET. This may be due in part to lower cholesterol in vegetarian diets and higher saturated fats in meat eaters diets. Choose your food well. It may save your life or a loved ones. Diet, lack of exercise, smoking and stress are a fatal attraction.

My good friend and ex business partner David sent me another great article on vegetarian living. It is from Oxford and is titled “Vegetarianism can reduce the risk of heart disease by up to one-third” . This was a study of true vegetarians that do not eat any meat or fish. This is the largest study on this topic ever done in the UK. Diet does cause either good health or bad health. It’s your choice as to what you eat. Universities all over the world are doing studies that prove this. I spoke of the CDC study that shoes vegetarian and vegan diets eliminate and in some cases cures almost all major diseases Americans get. Eat well and live well!

When everyone is unaware of diet-health issues, we grow sicker as a nation.

Physicians Committee for Responsible Medicine (PCRM) says a low-fat vegetarian diet prevents and can reverse heart disease. unfortunately most cardiologists are unaware of this and those that know seldom recommend it to their patients. We need to get the knowledge of vegetarian and vegan diets out there. Let people decide for themselves. If you don’t want to follow such a diet and get a chronic disease, at least it was your decision. So many people are totally unaware of the research and their doctors are as well. We as a nation smoked until marketing showed the damage of smoking. We now need to market the damage of bad diet on our lives.

Dr. Greger says that the drug industry says using a blood pressure lowering med results in a 15% lower risk of heart attack and a 25% lower risk of a stroke. Eating just 3 portions of whole grains per day gets the SAME results! Whole grains over white bread and rice also lowers the risk of diabetes where the white type results in a higher risk of diabetes. How much more simple can it be? Just eat whole grain versions of your food but don’t be fooled by sugary breakfast cereals that say whole grains.

In the Dr Gregor’s video that we have been discussing the few days, he says vegetarians and vegans have significantly lower blood pressure than does meat eaters. I can attest to this since I was diagnosed with high blood pressure, 12 years ago and decided to go vegetarian instead of take drugs. For 12 years I have had low blood pressure. 39 years ago we knew this by a study done at John Hopkins. The study shows in just 12 days of a vegan diet, your blood pressure is reduced by 6%.Is meat really so important to you that you are willing to die for it?
