Science Daily has an article on plant studies of how stress may be affecting our epigenetics. These studies suggest that areas of epigenetics that were previously believed to be static are in fact changing under stress. We are sure epigenetics is very complex. It seems to be a system that allows immediate short-term changes to our genetics to adapt to changing environmental conditions. Some of these changes work well while others cause illness and death. Genetics are long-term instructions that get mixed up when a sperm fertilizes an egg. These instructions are the basics needed to build all life on earth and react to changes in the environment. Life is different depending on how these genetics are “played”. Like piano music, the piano’s basic sounds (DNA) are stable but each song plays these basic sounds in different timing and ways. Each song is very different from each other. Epigenetics plays our genetics in different ways depending on our parents and grandparents epigenetics, our experiences in life, our diet, how we think, and our beliefs. We are well programmed but as they say in computers “Garbage In; Garbage Out!” What experiences and environmental factors are you taking in?
