How many times have you given in to your kids and given them fried chicken and French fries or a hamburger so you don’t have to listen to complaints? Our life is stressful enough, we don’t need to hear our kids constantly complain about what they are eating. It so ease to say “They will only eat …”. We are parents and therefore our kids teachers. We should be teaching them what they should be eating to remain healthy. If we give in to their desires, we could be making them unhealthy and sickly. Be a parent and teach! It may not be the easiest road but it’s the right one!

It may be a good idea to either offer some suggestions (such as the fact.. okay not always a fact, maybe just greater possibility.. that kids are less likely to complain when they actually helped prepare the dish) or link to a couple of those ‘making healthy food fun for kids’ recipe sites?

Helping in the preparation is always a good idea and can be fun for the child. A good idea is also to never say “You won’t like that”. Even spicy foods, let them decide. As to suggested healthy foods, this BLOG has thousands of recommendations as does my book, “Food for thought”. The healthiest foods are made by nature not in a box, can or bag.

So true and so sad. The private elementary school my children went to asked me for recipes and meal ideas to pass on to other parents because they noticed my children had healthy and fun looking lunches.
I wish I could run every school cafeteria in the country! What they serve my now highschooler is of course, pizza, taquitos, pasta with heavy sauces, oily stir fries with white rice. UGH!
Thank you for the post.

Unfortunately school cafeterias are run by big business like coke.
