My brother-in-law, Ray sent me information on a European study involving LMU scientists who found a gene called ABCC9 that regulates our sleep. This is an ancient gene that exists in Fruit Flies as well. As I read this article, I can’t help but wonder what epigenetics are at play. Having a gene that controls sleep duration is interesting but finding what turns this gene ON and OFF or regulates it is amazing. Maybe some part of our diet, stress levels or thinking triggers this gene. If we better understood the triggers from an environmental point of view, we could help people with disorders.
