The more I read on epigenetics the more I understand that it not only turns genes ON or OFF but controls how many times the gene is expressed (run). So epigenetics can be better thought of as a volume control that goes from 0 to 10. A zero setting is like having the gene shut OFF. A ten setting has the gene ON and running often. This makes understanding the interactions between the environment and our genes even more complex. We not only have to understand what can shut a gene down or turn it on but by how much.
