DIET.COM ran an interesting article on nutrigenomics that discusses how science is working on a personalized health diet based on genetic makeup. It lists known genetic conditions and foods to avoid such as: milk, cheese, fish, chicken, eggs, dried beans, nuts and tofu. If you have these conditions or your family is subject to them, you will want to avoid the foods listed. “Nutrigenomics is in sharp contrast to the traditional food pyramid and recommended daily allowances (RDAs) that are intended to prevent nutritional deficiencies in the general population.” Diseases that are known to involve interactions between multiple genetic and environmental factors such as diet include:
- many cancers
- diabetes
- heart disease
- obesity
- some psychiatric disorders.
