The sickness business is booming. Gross revenues look like annual budgets of medium size countries. Profits are up. Just stop and think about the drug companies. Their products have horrible side effects yet they still spend millions to advertise them. Why? because if people die, it doesn’t matter. There are always new kids growing up to buy the drugs. Hospitals are cropping up everywhere. Medical centers are like McDonald’s on each street corner. Our health care system is costing way too much and it will break at some point.
It is sad when we look at the research I have BLOGged about and understand that health can be improved cheaply and safely by changing our diet, exercising, meditating and thinking positive. You will never see anyone advertise this on national TV. Why? because there is no money in being healthy only in being sick. Imagine a large percentage of our great country suddenly got healthy. The trillion-dollar medical & drug system would lose all that. Do you really think they want that to happen?

Dr Greger says being hydrated (drinking enough water) can affect their intelligence. ¾ of kids in study drank NO water between getting up and going to bed. Three new studies looked at school children. The smartest where the ones that had water to drink. Water is key to our bodies functions. If you want to function properly … DRINK WATER! Not soda, not juice. Water hydrates much better than other drinks containing water.
Epigenetics are environmental influences that affect our genes. Our body reacts to the environment for good or bad. It’;s reactions cause genes to turn on or be blocked from turning on. It is an elaborate program That adjusts our bodies to new environmental conditions. The three main rules are:
Diet – diet can cause health to be good with strong immune system or be weak and susceptible to diseases of all kinds. it is your choice! Plant based protein is proven over and over again to aid our bodies in building a strong immune system and fighting disease while animal protein causes inflammation which can lead to a weaker immune system and disease.
Stress – Stress for early man was running from a saber toothed tiger and surviving. Afterwards the stress was gone. Today stress comes from our jobs, our families, finances, etc. It never ends or goes away in some people. Stress can weaken the immune system and cause diseases.
Thinking – Dr Bruce Lipton has shown how thinking can cause epigenetic changes that can make us healthier or sicker. We know about placebos that cause us to believe they will heal us and therefore they do. Nocebos are the anti-placebo. If we believe we will get sick, we probably will. Positive thinking and belief will strengthen the immune system, heal or ills and prevent diseases. Negative thinking will cause the opposite effect. Our bodies believe what our minds tell it!
What messages are you sending to your body? If you eat poorly, have stress in your daily life and think negatively; you have a much higher probability of becoming ill with disease than a positive thinking, stressless vegan!
I saw a show the other day that said many dying people were interviewed and asked what their number one regret was. It was regretting they didn’t live the live they wanted to live but one someone else wanted them to live. Thinking positive, living our lives happily do affect our health and well-being. Dr. Bruce Lipton talks about the epigenetics of thought in his many books and talks. When you are on your deathbed, and we will all be there, be happy with your life, with your loved ones and friends. Don’t regret anything. Stress is a bad thing and the stress of regret is very strong!
There are cases were we need a drug to stop an infection or help with pain but most drugs we see on TV are to solve minor things like acid reflex. The side effects are so much worse than the thing we are trying to resolve! Is it really worth taking them? I don’t believe so. These maladies that we are taking drugs for can easily be resolved safely through diet. Acid reflex, most chronic illnesses including cancer and heart disease, gout, obesity, and so on and so on… When will we learn that we have evolved with plants to help us live a healthy life. Man made drugs are no comparison to what nature gives us free. The next time you see a drug commercial take note how many there are and how bad the side effects are. Then note what the drug is supposed to cure. Change your life-style and live healthier.
I was in Whole Foods Supermarket yesterday and was pleasantly surprised at the number of non meat dishes in their prepared foods section. They have always had meat-less cold cuts and non dairy cheeses but there is an increase of delicious prepared foods made from vegetables. If you are an avid reader of this BLOG, you already know that vegetables are critical to human health. They give us our medicines but they also give us our health. If you are not a vegetable eater, try some new veggies. Try making them al-dente so they have a crunch to them (they will also have more nutrients in them). Most European cultures favor their vegetable dishes. Why do we Americans typically eat little or no vegetables? Health is your choice. God doesn’t make you sick nor does anyone except yourself. Change your life-style and enjoy better health. Diet, stress, exercise and thinking (positive or negative) are the main causes of healthy (good or bad). Insulin Like Growth Factor (IGF1) is a cancer promoting hormone found in animal protein. This appears to be why vegan diets seem to drastically and quickly cancel the negative affects of cancer. This hormone causes inflammation that takes hours for our body to fight. What do most Americans do hours after they have eaten? They eat again and usually eat something with animal protein (meat, poultry, eggs, milk, cheese, butter). The more we eat of this type of protein, the more IGF1 our bodies need to fight. inflammation is a major link to all types of cancer. I have spoken about this before on this BLOG. Dr Greger says a diet of plant based foods will improve your dental health. Remember animal based diets lead to inflammation which can cause dental problems. Oral cancer is less likely with a plant based diet (as are almost all cancers). Eating the way we were designed (not the way we want to eat) allows our bodies to grow healthy, fight disease and live longer. We evolved as primarily plant based eaters with occasional animal foods. Americans today are primarily animal based food eaters and diets high in fats. It is no wonder chronic illness has progressed to such alarming levels. How do you eat? Better yet how do you feed your loved ones?

I live south of Philadelphia near the Delaware border and vegetarian and vegan are still pretty much unheard of. Some restaurants are experimenting with vegan and vegetarian diets. Vedge in Philadelphia is one of our nations best restaurants and it’s all vegan! The food is delicious. Philly has several good vegetarian and vegan choices. I was in our local Whole Foods market this morning and they had a great selection of cookies and muffins that were 100% vegan prepared. I tried a blueberry muffin that was so delicious. Not overly sweet but great tasting. As more people go vegetarian or vegan or try it, food will change. Great new dishes will appear from creative minds. Explore your options and enjoy your food without giving up your health!
Shine from Yahoo ran an article on sodas causing depression, http://shine.yahoo.com/healthy-living/sweet-sodas-soft-drinks-may-raise-risk-depression-183000091.html . They say a new study of more than 260,000 people links soda consumption to depression. Is it any wonder there are more and more cases of depression in our young? Soda consumption is way up from when I was a kid and so is depression related diseases. The study showed 4 or more servings of soda a day lead to a 30% greater risk of depression.
